problems with soft shadow

I'm using Creator 8 on Winsows XP.
I have 2 elements with soft shadows placed above a text block. The file looks OK on screen and when printed from Creator. However, when I export the file as an EPS and print from Quark OR distill into a PDF, some of the text near the soft shadow is appearing bold. If I move the elements with a soft shadow farther away from the text block the problrm goes away. Could this be a bug or possibly a setting that needs to be changed?
