back-to-back gradient Q with Distiller setting 'Convert gradients
to smooth shades'

Hello,
Is anyone else exporting EPSs out of Creator and distilling them? We're
doing it for proof purposes and not yet using the PDFs as Finals in the
paper, but some day we might..
My current Distiller settings have the check box Advanced -> 'Convert
gradients to smooth shades' on - looks like a Distiller 7 and 8 default.
My old Distiller 4 and 5 settings did not have this checked.
With a back to back gradient defined, say 2 repeats at 90 degrees with a
100% color on the left/right fading to 10% at around half of the slider
and then staying at 10%, the resulting PDF is only somewhat correct on
the right side. The left side of the gradient ignores the slider at
half way through and does a 100% to 10% gradient until it meets the
other gradient where its half way point was.
If I remove the option for 'Convert gradients to smooth shades' the PDF
looks fine.
I realize this is a little tough to explain, so if you need more please
let me know. I'm testing with a blank document and a background fill,
exporting EPS at both L1 and L2.
Intel OSX 10.4.10 and C7.0.6
Distiller 8.1.0 on MAC
Distiller 7.0.7 on PC
thanks!
