tech font Q - does Save as EPS convert TrueType fonts to Type 1?

Hello,
I'm putting my new MacPro (OSX 10.4.10) through its paces, and am
currently testing C7.0.6 with *just* the fonts installed in System ->
Library -> Fonts.
I have a test document with sample text in Courier, Helvetica, Times,
Symbol, and Zapg Dingbats. Thus the fonts being used are all TrueType
.dfonts.
When I Save As PDF, the fonts embedded are TrueType. When I Save As EPS
and distill with Distiller 8, the fonts embedded are all Type 1!
I duplicated the document in InDesign CS3 - the Exported PDF has
embedded TrueType fonts and the Exported EPS that is distilled with
Distiller 8 has embedded Type 1 fonts as well.
I suspected Distiller, so I removed the Adobe font location from its
font locations - no change.
When I open Creator's EPS in TextEdit and look at the font definitions,
they all say '%%Generated from a TrueType font by Creator 2'.
Do you think C7 is converting the fonts as it makes the EPS? Perhaps as
an industry-standard developer trick?
