OT: electronic tear sheets

Our  IT people are trying to figure out away to auto generate PDF's  
when the Paginators print their pages to film (the paginators are all  
on the Mac G5 doubles nontel running Tiger and the pagination  
software is Quarky)

The goal: have auto generated PDF's, without user interaction, upon  
Printing the fully paginated page w/ads....the PDFS would then be  
used electronic tear sheets to send to the customer.

My thinking on the subject is ....simply have them export PDF's to a  
watch folder that will copy/upload the files to a print que.

But, how would one handle color separated pages??

Are there other alternatives? software? how are you good people  
handling electronic, full page tear sheets?
