Selecting Overflowed text

ok, here's another text question that maybe you can answer...

Now this WORKS in C4....
How do I select text that has overflowed out of the text block?   
Command-A doesn't work, click-Command shift-right-down-arrow doesn't  
work, click-Command-Option- shift-right-down-arrow doesn't work....  
I'm stumped.

What I want to do is horizontally scale down the overflowed text so  
that it fits in the text block.
