Gradients in PDFs

The best way by far to create bulletproof PDFs is to export EPS and use Distiller. Every app has some issues when exporting directly to PDF, including Adobe's own software. We don't have the time to troubleshoot every possible glitch, so proper PDF generating has become part of the automated workflow, and takes no longer than exporting them manually. In fact, it removes more chances of human error. 

Having said that, it looks like your background gradient is a single rectangle with two gradient points near the middle. Have you tried replacing it with two solid squares (blue & green), covered in the middle by a narrow gradient rectangle with the points left at their default positions?
