Lemme guess - you turned on "Be more compatible with Windows servers  
when locating graphics in saved documents"? This tells Creator to  
ignore the alias and go right to the other methods of locating the  
file. It was originally designed to be a workaround for bad data  
created by references to Windows servers, but now also fixes this  
problem. We might want to rename it, but it's so hard to explain  
without getting technical.
